Cissus Porphyrophyllus Plate, 1872
This colourful print comes from a book of plant studies from a series called Les Plantes à Feuillage that I found in Florence that were illustrated by E.J Lowe in his publication of beautiful leaved plants (1872). This plate depicts a Cissus Porphyrophyllus plant, an ivy leaf. The surface of the deep green leaf has been accentuated in a baby pink paint that makes the work expressive and unique, using alternative colours of the imagination. It has been framed in a gentle oak frame that does not distract from its detailing and colours.
