Rose Hilton, 'Christmas Card'
This unique and personal work is by Rose Hilton (1931-2019). Hilton was a Modern British artist who lived in Cornwall with her husband, Roger Hilton, also a painter. The two were amongst the notorious St Ives set. However, Roger Hilton discouraged Rose's painting, maintaining a beleif that wives should go no further than the kitchen. It was only untill his death 1975 when she began to paint again and arguably became the more influential painter by the end of her life and continues to be sought after. This particular work was a handmade original Christmas card Hilton sent out to friends. Inside, it says, 'ho ho ho, love to Abraham and Val, love Rose'. It is a double sided block print in yellow and brown depicting the three wise men and raindear. The work is signed from Rose on the reverse which is incredibly unique and special.
