Zea Japonica Plate, 1972
This colourful print comes from a book of plant studies from a series called Les Plantes à Feuillage that I found in Florence. They were illustrated by E.J Lowe in his publication of beautiful leaved plants (1872). This plate depicts a Zea Japonica plant. The print shows off its bright green stripes that almost make it seem like an abstracted work by the likes of Georgia O'Keeffe so much so the artist has even incorporated purple outlines like O'Keeffe's work. It has been framed in a gentle oak frame that does not distract from its detailing and colours.
