Toby Michael is an English figurative painter who draws inspiration from nature, utilizing classical painting techniques and taking influence from Impressionists, Pre-Raphaelites, and The Boston School. He captures the tranquility and beauty of his subjects by focusing on the effect of light, using a layering technique to gradually build up his paintings and achieve depth, texture, and luminosity.
Since Graduating from Winchester School of Art in 2018 he has been taking commissions whilst exhibiting domestically and selling his studio work to collectors internationally.
He was Artist in Residence at Stowe House 2020-21. He currently works from his studio in Buckinghamshire and is on the Board of Trustees for Chapel Arts Studios in Andover.
